Myers Court

Myers Court, QUAD Inc.‘s first project, was built in 1980 as a model for barrier free living. As the first independent living center in the nation not affiliated with a hospital or rehabilitation center, this unique building concept received national attention for its pioneering, barrier-free design some 10 years before the Americans with Disabilities Act set minimum standards for wheelchair accessibility. Remodeled in 2002, Myers Court is located in the North Portland community near the Emanuel Hospital.

Myers Court features:

  • 19 fully accessible apartments (all studio units at 450 sq.ft. with kitchenettes)
  • barrier free roll-in showers and closets, partial kitchens with accessible countertops and wide doorways
  • 24/7 resident-directed shared attendant care services available
  • safe, secure building access with automated roll-up entry
  • a common room with accessible full kitchen for resident use, group activities or meetings
  • automatic doors open to outdoor patio with gas BBQ grill
  • modern mechanical systems for climate control, fire protection and security
  • off-street parking for resident vehicles
  • computer work stations in the common room
  • close proximity to shopping, services and accessible transportation

All of QUAD Inc.‘s buildings offer HUD Section 8 subsidies for low-income applicants, making rents very affordable at 30% of a resident’s annual income. Tenants who live solely on SSI of approximately $675.00 per month pay about $150.00 per month in rent.
